CIIMS – Nagpur

The Nagpur local chapter of the Society for Neurochemistry India (SNCI) was formally established on August 6, 2016, although the Central India Institute of Medical Sciences (CIIMS) had been actively involved with SNCI since 2012. This involvement began with the organization of SNCI’s annual meeting in Nagpur, setting the stage for the chapter’s continued contributions to the field of neurochemistry. Over the years, the Nagpur chapter has organized several key events. These include the 26th Annual Meeting of SNCI in 2012 on “Rejuvenation Neurochemistry: Bedside to Bench and Back to Bedside,” a one-day conference on “Zoonotic Diseases and Neuroinfections” in 2016, an online workshop in 2020 focused on “Immunological and Molecular Approaches for Diagnosis of Neuroinfections & Neurological Diseases,” and the 36th Annual Meeting of SNCI in 2022, which also featured an international conference on One Health and Translational Research in Neurosciences.

The chapter’s initiatives extend beyond conferences. Each year, it presents the Best Oral Presentation Awards in honor of the late Dr. G. M. Taori, a distinguished Neurophysician and founder of CIIMS, who was passionate about fostering collaboration between clinicians and researchers. The Nagpur chapter also launched SNCI’s annual newsletter, which has reached its 7th edition, and plays a crucial role in editing these publications and coordinating the preparation of award mementos. Today, the Nagpur chapter has 54 life members, with Dr. Amit Nayak serving as its coordinator since inception, supported by members like Dr. Aliabbas Husain, Ms. Payal Khulkhule, Ms. Rima Biswas, and Ms. Jayshree Shukla.
