Guest Lecture on MicroRNA (19.01.2026)
Society for Neurochemistry India (SNCI) Varanasi Chapter, in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Banaras Hindu University, organized Guest Lecture by Prof. Debomoy K. Lahiri, School of Medicine, Indiana University, USA, on 19th Jan 2026 (Monday) at 03:00 PM in SPRC Hall, Department of Zoology, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University – Varanasi in offline/online hybrid mode. The title of the talk was ‘A unique microRNA acting as a ‘Molecular Switch’ controls the expression of several proteins critical to Neurodegenerative Diseases’. During the interesting and insightful talk Prof. Lahiri explained about how some small stretches of RNA regulate the neuronal development and how the malfunction of the same may result into Neuro-degeneration. To connect his work with Indian traditional system, he explained the interrelation of the same with microRNA mediated neuro-degeneration. Dr. Sada Nand Pandey welcomed the speaker and the audience, Prof. M. K Thakur, who is a long time collaborator with Prof. Lahiri, introduced the speaker. More than 80 participants attended the talk in-person while there were about 40 participants in online mode. The audience included Professors, Scientists, Research Scholars, Post graduation and Under graduation students from various Institutes. The head of the Department, Prof. M.
